What is Sky Player?

Sky Player is the home of Sky TV online ? it?s Sky, but on your computer. Choose from top channels including Sky Sports, Sky Movies, the BBC and National Geographic Channel. You can watch channels live online, or watch on demand at a time that suits you.

How does Sky Player work?

Sky Player securely delivers content via the internet, using both direct and peer-to-peer distribution. Once the file has been downloaded, Microsoft Digital Rights Management (DRM) software will prevent unauthorised viewing and will automatically delete the file from your PC once your license to view it expires.

What is available on Sky Player?

Sky Player shows a wide range of channels from Sky1, Bio, Sky Arts, Sky News, Sky Movies, National Geographic Channel, History, Crime & Investigation Network and Sky Sports.

Certain programmes are available at no extra cost if you have the applicable Sky TV package, and some are available regardless of package on a pay per view or buy to keep basis.

How do I log into Sky Player?

Simply click on the log in button at the top of the Sky Player application and enter the username and password you created when you registered on Sky.com, or the details you were given when you ordered Sky Broadband.

Is my PC ready?

To use Sky Player your computer must meet the following requirements:

-Windows XP or Vista, or an Intel-based Mac with the Microsoft Silverlight 2.0 browser plug-in (Sky Player is currently not available on 64bit versions of Windows Vista or Linux)

-Broadband connection (recommended minimum of 1Mb)

-Internet explorer 6.0 or above

-Windows Media player 11 (this can be downloaded from www.microsoft.com or installed during the Sky Player installation) -Adobe Flash player (The latest version can be downloaded from www.adobe.com)

During the installation the following programs will also be installed (if you dont already have them):

-Microsoft.Net framework 2.0

How do I find a video?

You can look for a video in a variety of ways, if you're just browsing to see what is available, simply click on the channel you want to browse from the homepage and you can see what is on offer. You can choose from the categories on the left hand menu to see more videos in that channel.

If you know what video you are looking for you can use the search facility to enter the title, a stars name or even a director. Alternatively you can choose the channel the video is in and select a-z from the left hand menu.

Sky Player can also recommend videos to you based on your preferences, simply click on recommendations at the top and fill in the required details for each channel.

How can I download videos?

Once you have have found the video you want to download, simply click on the pay per view, buy to keep or download button below the picture to begin the download. For more information on pay per view and buy to keep, check the 'How much does it cost?' section.

Some videos will also have a play button, clicking on this will play the video immediately without having to wait for it to download.

How much do videos cost to download?

Sky Player offers a wide variety of videos, some are available at no extra charge to Sky subscribers, with the relevant channels in their package. You can also download movies from Sky Box Office (£3.50) and other channels for a small charge. These videos start from £1.00. If there is a charge for the video you will be advised of this before you download and you will then be asked to confirm you wish to pay from your pre pay wallet or by credit or debit card, for more information on the Sky Player payment account, check the 'How much does it cost?' section.

I have clicked through to a video, but I don't have a download button?

Some videos on Sky Player are only available to customers who subscribe to the channel the programme came from on their Sky subscription. For example you need to have Children's Pack as part of your Sky package to be able to get the Baby First or Baby TV programmes in our Kids section for no extra cost. Often we can offer you the chance to rent selected programmes. Prices differ.

Can I watch live streaming on Sky Player?

Anyone with a Sky Player account can watch Sky News live in our News section, just follow the links, log in and press play. You can then watch Sky News for as long as you like. To watch the live streaming in our Sports section you'll need to have a Sky Multiroom account at home, or simply upgrade your account using Sky Player.

I can't get Sky Player to open?

This is normally caused by your firewall or router blocking Sky Player from accessing the internet. If Sky Player wont open after you have configured your firewall / router there may have been an error during the installation, to resolve this you should uninstall and reinstall Sky Player by following the procedure below.

To remove Sky Player:

Windows XP.

1. Click on the 'start' button

2. Select control panel

3. Click on the option 'add or remove programs'

4. Find Sky Player and click on it

5. Click on the 'Remove' button. This will delete Sky Player from your PC.

Windows Vista'

1. Click on the 'start' button

2. Select control panel.

3. Click on programs

4. Under the programs and features heading select uninstall a program.

5. Find Sky Player and click on it.

6. Click on the 'Remove' button. This will delete Sky Player from your PC

To reinstall Sky Player:

1. Log in to your My Sky account

2. Click 'download the application' under the Sky Player heading.

What is Videostore?

The Videostore version of Sky Player was available to users that don?t have a Sky subscription. These users without a Sky subscription can now use Sky Player, exactly the same as Sky subscribers, so Videostore is no longer necessary. We?ve turned Sky Player into a one-stop shop for all your On Demand needs!

Who is it for?

There?s something for everyone on Sky Player. If you?re an existing Sky TV customer you can watch selected programmes from channels in your TV package at no extra cost. And if you?re new to Sky we have a monthly subscription that lets you watch selected channels live online, with a great selection of catch-up programmes to watch on demand included as part of the same subscription. You can also rent or buy single episodes with no commitment.

What does it cost?

Selected programmes are included as part of existing Sky TV or Sky Player subscriptions. And if you don?t have a Sky TV subscription you can subscribe from only £15 a month, for as little as one month. Individual episodes are available to rent from as little as £1.

What do I need?

Sky Player works on PC and Mac computers. All you need is a compatible web browser with the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in installed. You can also choose to install the free Sky Player Software to help you enjoy the Sky Player experience to the full on a single registered PC. Sky Player Software is not currently available for Macs. You need Sky Player software to: watch Movies and Entertainment programmes; watch programmes offline; ensure top-quality viewing, even with a slow internet connection; buy programmes to keep.
