The scarcely credible rise of George W. Bush from drunken fratboy to leader of the free world is tersely tracked by director Oliver Stone in a predictably right-baiting chronicle of calamity. Josh Brolin delivers a sympathetic portrayal of the ambitious good ol' boy desperate to escape his father’s shadow but it is Richard Dreyfuss who steals the show as a chillingly venal vice president Dick Cheney. It’s an all-too-believable indictment of a corrupt administration so drunk on (oil-fired) power that it would lead the country into the bloody quagmire of Iraq.
